M: My sister had an accident and was taken into hospital.

W: That’s terrible, is she Ok?

M: She wasn’t really hurt but she was pretty frightned.

  Text5

W: I still have to buy those tickets for tomorrow’s concert.

M: They may be gone by now. They’ve been on sale for a week and the singer is very popular.

  Text6

W: Whew! We’ve arrived in London at last

M: Yeah, I can tell.I can’t understand anything the people around us are saying.

W: You mean you don’t speak any English at all?

M:I speak a little. But speaking and understanding are two different things. For instance, I know the word ” foreigner”—but I can’t tell which line is for foreigners.

  W: Oh, it’s this one.” Non-Residents”。

M: So what’s taking them so long? At this rate, we’ll never get into the country.

W: Especially if you don’t fill out the immigration card.

M: Right. Well, I’ll do it while I’m standing in line, I should have plenty of time.

  Text7

  W: Hi, you look tired.

M: Yeah, but actually I feel great. I’ve just been working out at the gym.

W: Really? What do you do?

M: Well, usually I play ping-pong three times a week, if I have time, I go for a short swim.

W:I have never been to the gym. I am so busy with my classes that I just don’t have time to exercise.

M: Well, any way, think about it. And if you do find the time, I do encourage you to try it. you’d  feel 100% better.

W: Yeah, I really need to start getting some exercise. I will give it some serious thought.

  Text8

M: I’m going shopping for the barbecue. What do we need?

W: Well, there’ll be eight of us, so if everyone eats two hamburgers, we’ll need 16 buns and 16 patties. Let’s see, we’ll also need two jars of mustard, two jars of relish, and some ketchup.

  M: Whoa…slow down…

W: Okay, okay…Well…we’ll also need pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, and mayonnaise.

  M: Anything else?

W: Paper plates, Don’t  forget the paper plates.

  Text9

M: Do you mind if I take notes?

  W: Not at all,

M: Thank you, I see that you have been an assistant manager for years, which means that you were made an assistant manager at a relatively young age. I’m interested in whether you have problems with having authority, and how you would deal with them.

Can you tell me how you would deal with a member of the staff who refused to carry out an order or request that you thought was perfectly reasonable?

W: I would make sure that the interview took place in private. I think that’s important. I would find out whether there was a strong disagreement with myself. Or whether the root cause was domestic, or indeed in the work situation , and I would take it from there.

  M: You’d talk it through?

  W: Oh, yes.

M: Right, thank you. Er…as you know, there have been a number of applications for this post. Why do you think we should give it to you?

W: I recognize that I have a comparative lack of experience in senior management. Er…since I got my MBA, I’ve done a lot of work. I can offer,er…a fresh and active plan.

M: Most interesting. Thank you for coming, and we’ll let you know in about a week,

W: Lovely, thank you, Nice to meet you, Goodbye.
