  Text 1

W: What would you like to drink, Coca-Cola or orange juice

M: Thanks, but actually I don’t want either one. I am really thirsty, and all I want right now is a cup of ice water.

  Text 2

W: How is everything going in your classes

M: Well, it’s a little hard for me to follow everything my teachers say, especially in my math and chemistry classes. I first thought physics would be difficult, but it turns out pretty interesting to me.

  Text 3

W: The plane for Hong Kong was supposed to leave at 8:15 this morning, but because of the storm, it was delayed for about four hours.

M: What  You mean you had to wait till afternoon  That sounds terrible.

  Text 4

W: Hi, this is Lisa. I can’t come to the phone right now, so leave a message. Thanks! (Beep)

M: Hi, Lisa, this is Frank. I just wanted to see if you’re feeling better. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you. Give me a call anytime. Take care. Bye!

  Text 5

W: Have you lost weight, Mr. Sanders

M: Well, I don’t know about that, Mrs. Kenyan, but you sure have made my day!

  Text 6

M: This one looks great! I love the seashore. W: So do I. The sun... the sand... the ocean!

M: And listen to this! What do you think about going sailing, swimming, windsurfing and fishing

W: Oh, Tom! They all sound fantastic. I would really like to do all those things.

  M: Yeah, me too.

W: Well, except fishing. To be honest, I hate fishing, but I love all the others.

M: Hey! Look at this! We can stay in a big hotel or we can stay in a little cabin by the beach.

W: You know, I really don’t like those big hotels.

M: Neither do I. Let’s stay in a cabin. It’ll be much nicer right beside the ocean.

  Text 7

M: First of all, thank you for waiting.

W: Oh, no problem. I like to help the police when I can.

M: Now, what did the man look like

W: He was pretty tall and thin. I think he was about twenty.

M: OK. And what about his hair

W: Oh, it was wavy and kind of short. Was it blond or brown  Wait. It was blond.

M: And what about his clothes

W: They were terrible, not fashionable at all!

M: I mean... what did he have on

W: Well, he was wearing a blue golf shirt with red stripes and a pair of brown shorts. And he had black socks on. Can you believe it  Red and blue and brown and black  Terrible.

M: OK. That’s all I need to know. Thanks again.

  Text 8

W: I heard that some schools are allowing students to choose their own courses from now on.

M: You mean they’re getting rid of course requirements altogether

W: That’s right. For example, if you don’t want to take a foreign language or math, you don’t have to. Can you believe it

M: I think that’s a great idea. I wonder why they don’t let us do it here. Allowing students to

choose their own courses could make them more interested in their studies, so they might learn more and get better grades.

W: Oh, I don’t think so. I think students would just take the courses that they like, so they wouldn’t learn a lot of useful things.

M: Well, maybe. But if you take courses you don’t like, you end up hating school. This way, though, you’d end up loving school.

  Text 9

W: Hi! May I ask you some questions

  M: Sure.

W: In what way is your school different from others

M: A few of our students are physically disabled and others have learning disabilities. We have children who learn quickly and others who are a bit slower. Our school accepts all students.

W: Is your school the only one like this

M: That’s correct. Disabled children are usually sent to special schools. They grow up in a different world.

W: What made you decide to start this school

M: We realized that disabled children know nothing about children in ordinary schools. The opposite is also true. We believe that all human beings should grow together and learn from each other.

W: Do the slower learners hold up the faster learners

M: No. For some classes, they are separated. In other classes, they work together.

  W: How does that work

M: Well, the faster kids help the slower kids, and they end up being even better students when they teach others.

W: Thank you so much for your time!

M: You are welcome. Text 10

This announcement is for all members of our community. It concerns new safety rules and instructions. As many of you already know, there was a break-in last week in Apt.407. Mrs. Horn and her family are safe, but they could have been attacked if they had been home during the robbery. The thieves took jewelry and other valuables from the home. In response to this attack, the neighborhood security team has decided on the following solutions. A new electronic gate will be installed to prevent unwanted cars from entering our community. Next, we will be putting
