二、重点难点分析
1. I really wish I could read some funny stories .
我真希望能读一些有趣的故事。
wish在句中是动词，表示“希望、愿望”，我们还学过hope也可以表示这一含义，它们的区别大家都已经清楚了,下面就wish的用法简单介绍一下:
（1）wish to do , wish sb to do
I wish / hope to receive presents on my birthday .
我希望生日时收到礼物。
She wishes her son to get a good mark in the exam .
她希望她儿子在考试中取得优异成绩。
（2）wish that …
I wish that I could fly . 我希望我会飞。
（3）wish sb sth / adj 表示“祝福某人……”
I wish my parents happy forever . 我希望我的父母永远快乐。
2. Life to him seemed nothing but heavy work .
生活对他来说除去沉重的工作别无他物。
（1）but常和否定代词nobody , nothing , nowhere等连用，意为“除去，除……以外”。
eg . We had no choice but to wait . 我们除了等待之外别无其他选择。
There was nothing but an old picture in the room .
房间里除了一幅旧画之外什么也没有。
He believes in nobody but his parents . 除他的父母之外，他谁也不信。
（2）seem表示“似乎，好象”后面可跟形容词，不定式或从句。
例如:
It seemed that they had lost the match . = They seemed to have lost the match .
他们看上去输了比赛。
3. Just then , Jim came running along with a water bucket and singing .
恰好那时，吉姆跑来，提着一个水桶并唱着歌。
running和singing在句中做状语，表示伴随情况或方式。
这种用法课文中还有几处：
Sighing , he began to white wash the fence but did not enjoy it .
他叹着气，开始粉刷那片栅栏，但他一点都不喜欢干。
Tom went on white washing the fence , paying no attention to Ben .
汤姆继续粉刷栅栏，不去注意本。
Tom white washed like an artist , enjoying his work .
汤姆象一个艺术家一样粉刷，享受着他的工作。
And while Ben worked in the hot sun whitewashing , Tom rested under a tree .
当本在太阳下粉刷的时候，汤姆在一棵树下休息。
4. Tom turned to Jim , “ Say , Jim , I’ll fetch the water if you whitewash some of this fence . ”
汤姆转向吉姆，说说看，吉姆，我会去提水如果你粉刷栅栏的话。
turn to表示“转向，把（注意力，行动等）导向……”还可以表示“向某人求助”
与turn搭配的短语还有：

turn over 翻过来　 turn in 上交　　 　　 turn to the left / right 向左/右转
take turns to do 轮流去做某事　　 　　 wait for one’s turn to do等待某人的次序来做某事
fetch在句中是及物动词，表示“（去）取（物）来，（去）带（人）来，口语中常说成go and fetch”。
例如:
Please fetch the children from school . 请到学校里把孩子接来。
